The Secret: YES! Paste

YES! Paste is a water-based, acid-free adhesive designed specifically for working with paper. It's slow-setting and repositionable, so you have time to adjust your placement before it fully sets. Best of all, it's nontoxic, dries completely clear, and cleans up with just soap and water.

What You'll Need

Scissors or rotary cutter and cutting mat
Wax paper
Painter's tape
Hand-held glue spreader
Squeegee or credit card
YES! Paste

Step-by-Step Installation

Trim your wallpaper to size using your scissors or rotary cutter and mat.

Prepare your workspace by laying down wax paper and securing it with painter's tape to catch excess paste and keep your work surface clean.

Using your glue spreader, apply YES! Paste directly to the back of the wallpaper. Spread it sparingly but thoroughly from edge to edge—void lumps and make sure the entire surface is covered.

Carefully position the wallpaper on your wall.

Use your squeegee or credit card to smooth out air bubbles and press the paper firmly into place for full adhesion.

If you are using flooring paper, Once the paste is thoroughly dry, you can seal the wallpaper with Mod Podge to protect it and add a finished look. Apply a gloss or semi-gloss coat depending on the effect you prefer—gloss gives a polished shine, while semi-gloss offers a more subtle finish. For best results, apply 4 to 5 thin coats rather than one thick coat.

Why YES! Paste?

I have not tried other products and therefore cannot recommend them. YES! Paste is readily available at Amazon, Walmart, Michael's, and other major retailers. While alternatives like Grandmother Stover's and Mini-Graphics Wallpaper Mucilage exist and might work just as well, they typically come in smaller quantities and cost more for larger projects. YES! Paste delivers the best combination of value, performance, and ease of use for your archival wallpaper work.
